Faber Castel Pitt artist pens, pen, pencil.

Stopped counting after the first thirty hours! Original is roughly 2/3 of an A4 page.

Uploaded new picture, the scan ought to bring out more detail - hope you enjoy!

EDIT :

BY THE GODS! A daily deviation is not what I expected (DAILY DEVIATION), thank you very much to all involved! Makes those countless hours and days [daily deviation?] of hardship well worth the trouble. {DAILY DEVIATION.}

For my next project I promise to do my very best* to avoid burning cigarette holes in it as I did here (the black Pitt artist pen ink is the most flammable of all colours I'll have you know!)

*Does not include not smoking while I draw - I have principles!

I don't recall what it was exactly, I just remember the colours - a flash of vibrant colours... Took me a few years to feel comfortable enough to tackle this, I hope to make more of the same universe in the months to come - thanks a lot for your interest!

May I ask what sparked this idea? I really love it - my favourite works are usually the ones that are so filled with 'blank spots', things you don't understand, as taken out of a dream, and this work is definitely one of these. Kind of surreal, but not enough for my brain to give up, it wants it to make sense, and I really like that. I'm not really sure if I like the a bit rough style of colouring or not, but overall, in this piece, it fits it well. It adds to the feeling of ... I don't really know, hard times?
I like the humanlike character very much, the way you turned his or her back to us, it could be anyone, everyone. It makes me think of old legends. You rarely get to know about the character itself, only about his deeds ... A nice contrast with the more earth-like theme (I don't really know how to explain it ^^; ) that looks like something from a warm land far away, and then these gun-like weapons. The hole is a neat detail, another thing that makes me wonder.
And the masks. Oh, the masks was the first thing that cough my eye. I love masks, and these are beautifully done, unique and emotionless, even though they do seem a bit expressive. And the shape, the shaape!
This is amazing, really. You deserve your daily deviation, and I'm glad you got it, so I could discover this amazing piece of art. Brilliant work.

Oh, and the cigarette holes? They looks neat. Or, if what I think is the burnt holes is intended, then I can't see the accidental ones. Some of them looks like eye-holes on the masks, and there were always black spots on my grandfather's plaited straw-mats. It makes me feel that the building is made of straw. I don't know if it was intended to be straw, but those holes made my head sure of that this is made of straw.

Really appreciate the interest buddy!

What sparked the idea? I can't remember where I was at the time (I usually do when I'm first taken with an idea), I only remember being utterly grabbed with a vision of vibrant colours - great, solemn beings towering above a sea of people under a clear blue sky - this was about five years ago, when I first began sketching and writing this story. I've been doing it on and off since then, I've only now begun getting serious about it.

The fact that this character could be 'anyone' is entirely central to the core concept, I'm really glad you picked that out! I hope to shed some more light on this universe over the coming months, though it may be a long wait before the next one - I hope you'll come back and tell me more of your impressions when I eventually finish it.

The cigarette holes can't be seen here - they fortunately only involved the very top of the page (though I lost roughly a tenth of it, the wooden circle reached further up originally!)
:D

Again, thank you for this - appreciated it a hell of a lot!

Oh, how fascianting! A five year old idea - it also seemed a bit too deep and thought-though than just something that popped up all of sudden. I know those ideas that lay around in the back of your mind, and then, after many years, you suddely want to do something about it.

I will most definitely look forward to see more of this universe. Take your time, it can be seen in your art that you work on it for a long time. I'll stop by now and then and see how it's going with this project ^^

Phew! That's good to hear, even though it's of course annoying to lose a part of your hard work ... On the other hand, I really like the format ^^

You're most welcome, and I thank you for satisfying my curiousity :D

Goddamn, I'm replying very late because I'm an awful person! I started working on the next scene in these universe two months ago, but took a small ballpoint pen Viking drawing break - I've since then spent well over a hundred hours on it and I'm far from being finished... So things might be a little slow coming on the next piece, but hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
:D

Thanks again for the interest buddy! I'll see ya around. :D

Whoa, you must be a patient man, I'd never finish anything that took that long! Best luck with it, I'm looking forwards to see the result :D

Hah thanks! Curiously enough I'd not developed the patience for this kind of work until about six months ago, had only been doing drawings in one sitting up until then. I'll be checking out your work now!

I never learned more about drawing than when I pushed myself to finish large scale projects - for this reason I can't recommend it enough, even when it feels like you've failed, that you'd better start over - to just carry on no matter what.
